Welcome Friends!
Anna P.
Minnesota
Biography

Anna was born a normal 7 pound 13 ounce baby.  She has ALWAYS been
very active, playful, and outgoing.  Anna from birth was given the nickname
"AnnaBug", and is still called that to this day from all family and friends who
know her.

AnnaBug has always been a go-go-go girl, and does NOT like naps... that all
changed on July 25th, 2011.  We had an all day pool party, where the kids got
together and swam all day, we BBQ'd and had a lot of fun with friends and
family.  On July 26th, 2011, AnnaBug came down with a pretty high fever.  I
(Mom), put a call into her doctor, who "chalked" it up to be heat-exhaustion.
For the next few days, Anna mysteriously would go hide to take naps, as if she
didnt want anyone to know.  As the days went by, Anna was taking more and more
naps, all by herself, and as her parents, we found it a little odd, considering
she has always put up a fight to even sit and relax.  On August 4th, 2011,
AnnaBug awoke in the morning, looking VERY pale.  She woke up around 8am, and by
11am, she was on her second nap of the day.  I (Mom) then put another call into
her doctor, to have her be seen in urgent care that evening, as they had no day
appointments available.

Anna's appointment was at 6pm, and thinking nothing of it, I had taken my other
2 daughters (ages 5 and 7) with us to the appointment.  When we arrived, the
doctor automatically thought Anna looked pale, so they took some blood for labs.
Within 20 minutes of taking blood, Anna's doctor came in, got down on her knee,
and told me there was an ambulance on the way, to take Anna and I (Mom) to the
hospital.  Her hemoglobin was 3.3, not to mention the dangerously low red and
white blood cells, and her platlet counts.

Grandma came to get my other 2 daughters from the clinic, and Dad was on his way
to meet us at the hospital.

They ran MANY tests on Anna over the next 20 hours, and at 5:45pm, less than 24
hours after Anna's clinic visit, we had an Oncologist in her hospital room,
telling us that our daughter had Leukemia.  Our worlds were forever changed, and
flipped upside down in less than 24 hours!

Anna is doing as well as can be expected.  She has endured many a couple of
surgeries to place a port into her chest, which will easily administer chemo and
other things.  She has spent 7 weeks total (so far) in the hospital.  She is a
brave girl, who is fighting for her life!
Currently, she is entering her "maintenance" phase of her therapy.  She will
need to take oral chemo pills every day for the next 2 1/2 years, as well as
have chemo administered through her port (placed in her chest) twice a month,
and have monthly lumbar punctures, with intra-thecal chemo.
